Nostepinne Doll Flora and the Flamingo

Last week, I posted about Ermingarde, (link) a new Nostepinne Doll that I had just turned on the lathe.

Well… I have turned, burned and painted another new Nostepinne Doll- and she has a story to tell, too..

Meet Flora, the Nostepinne Doll

that I have just turned in walnut wood.

Flora has a wonderful sense of humour-

perhaps it is because

she began her life as a nut tree….

I have no doubt that Flora  has

a great sense of the whimsical,

as she completely suprised me!

I knew, as I was turning her on

the lathe, that she had a

story to tell about her

animal companion….

I had assumed

that Flora

would be

cuddling a kitten,

or perhaps even

a puppy….

you know….

something small, soft

and fluffy.

Imagine my surprise

when Flora announced that

she was simply ALL ABOUT

Flamingos.

Flora has a penchant for dancing

the flamenco, and is convinced

that a flamingo is quite

sublime as her dance partner.

She discovered this one evening

when she was picking a basket of flowers

in her garden.

She bent over to pluck a blossom.

But- Hermione, the flamingo,

gracefully inclined her head,

and nipped the flower from it’s stem.

She then graciously presented it to Flora.

They have been the best of friends ever since.

And, sometimes, Flora’s neighbours will hear a note or two of flamenco, drifting up from Flora’s garden when the moon is full. Strange shadows flicker, and once or twice, people have been convinced that they saw a flamingo dancing among the flowers in Flora’s garden.

I also have another Nostepinne Doll finished, and will tell you her story soon, and am also turning more Nostepinne dolls on the lathe- which is one of my great delights!

How wonderful that Flor was able to speak clearly enough, and you were able to hear, the need for a flamingo. They are just magic together!

Not everyone would ‘get’ that dolls ‘speak to you’ as you make them….LOL!

I have finished another Nostepinne Doll that I will post about soon… :)
