For weeks and weeks, I have been avoiding working on one of my Goddess tapestries.

I just couldn’t summon the courage to weave her face…
The metaphor or pun is, of course: I couldn’t face her.
Well… I decided yesterday, that I am going to finish weaving her before this year is done.
So, I got out the lovely new sketchbook/journal that my daughter gave me for Christmas, and the gorgeous aquarelle watercolor pencils that my son gave me, and started sketching:

That was exactly what I needed to break the barriers I had set up between the tapestry and myself.
Then, under the close supervision of Ms Kitty, who settled in on her usual perch: I wove the face four different ways.
I kept tearing it out and re-weaving until I was happy with it.
Tapestry weaving is wonderfully forgiving: You simply go back and pull out what you don’t like and weave again until you find the solution.
It’s fascinating, because, as I weave, I become aware of all the running chatter that flaps through my mind.
I have to consciously work at stilling the negative voices and work on letting just the appropriate stuff through.
So, weaving is a VERY Zen process.

Just ask Ms Kitty.
She knows all about Zen.
And, she also knows all about weaving.
She’ll be happy to tell you about it.
Or perhaps she’ll just smile sweetly at you and wink.

Ms Kitty is 15+ years old, and was a rescue, so we don’t know her parentage. She is EXTREMELY vocal and can be very cantankerous, but also sweet beyond words. So, I don’t know if she’s Birman. She has HUGE blue eyes and Siamese coloring, so we assume that she’s Siamese-ish. And completely herself!!!

I decided that there were some things that I simply had to circle round to and dive into before the year ended.
Finishing the weaving of this tapestry, getting back to work on my new website (oh, html!) and to get a blog entry up!
I have a series of Goddess tapestries in various stages of completion and would like to get them ready to get them into a gallery, so I simply have to carve out the time to work on them.
Working on the new book, as well as design time on other projects makes this somewhat of a challenge.
But, it’s a joyful challenge…

Thank you so much! I still have a lot of embroidery and then finishing work to do on her.
The kind of fear that I was feeling with her wasn’t helpful… it was all kinds of ‘not good enough’ stuff that I simply had to ‘face’ and say, Well… this is probably not good enough for lots of people, BUT… this is the only way that she is meant to be, and that is that, so there is no point in making myself miserable about it.
And, then, let that go, and get back into the flow and feel the pleasure of the weaving.
So, that’s what I did!
I’m building a new website, and will be having a gallery page on it. The Goddess tapestries will be on there. Will post about it when I get there!

Thank you so much, Elizabeth! Tapestry weaving is one of my passions, and it can be challenging at times- in lots of ways. But, I love the process and I love the finished pieces.
