Blue Butterfly Mermaid Tapestry and how to weave tapestry on a triangle loom

When someone on facebook asked if it was possible to weave tapestry on triangle looms, I thought: ‘Great question!’

and then … ‘Of course it is!’

and then….’I have to try it to see if it really is!’

I had been mulling over weaving a new Mermaid tapestry for quite awhile, and had woven narrow bands on my Structo 4 harness loom as well as my rigid heddle box loom, to start.

I had a big ‘aha!’ about weaving the rest of the mermaid using my 14 inch triangle loom from Dewberry Ridge Looms.  LINK

Because there are a few things to know about weaving  tapestry on a triangle loom, I made a short video as part of the video about the Blue Butterfly Mermaid tapestry – it’s close to the end of the video.

I used  other looms to weave the other elements of the tapestry: a hexagon woven in copper wire on the Lily Speed o Weave Loom, narrow bands woven on the 4 harness vintage Structo loom, narrow bands woven on a rigid heddle box loom, 2 small triangles woven on the 7 inch Lil Weaver loom from Dewberry Ridge Looms and some tatting.

The hair is twisted cord made with a cord twister from Lacis.com.

The metallic threads used in the tapestry are from Kreinik. LINK

Hexagon Loom Weaving- Tapestry

Tapestry weaving on small looms is a delight.

I’ve made a small video tutorial to show how to weave tapestries on the hexagon loom.

This piece was woven on the 4 inch hexagon loom from Dewberry Ridge Looms LINK, but it can also be woven on 2 inch or 6 inch looms.

Tapestry weaving on hexagon looms will work well for people who make their own hexagon tiles for their games.

This one is part of a larger piece that I will be videoing when it’s done.

Happy weaving!  Happy hexagons!

Hexagon Loom Weaving- Mandala- Tapestry in a circle

I love weaving tapestries on small looms, and the hexagon loom is no exception.

Because of the nature of the hexagon loom, it’s perfect for weaving in a circle, working round and round.

I’ve been weaving tapestry (the warp strands are all covered, only the weft strands show) on the hexagon loom, in a circle.

I call this, ‘Mandala technique’, as you can weave beautiful mandalas this way.

Mandalas are meant to be meditative, and this technique is very contemplative, as well as being a lot of fun.

I’ve made a video tutorial, showing how to weave the mandala technique.

Gamers who make their own hexagon tiles will be able to use this technique to make one of a kind, absolutely gorgeous tiles for their games.

The hexagon in the video was woven on the 4 inch hexagon loom from Dewberry Ridge Looms LINK

Mandala technique works on all sizes of the hexagon looms.

The metallic threads are from Kreinik Threads LINK

Happy weaving!

Hexagon Loom Weaving- Teneriffe Lace Starburst Motif on the 6 inch hexagon loom

Lace making is one of my favorite things.

Weaving Teneriffe lace on hexagon looms is fun and quite easy.

The finished motifs can be used in all kinds of ways-

The Hexagon Shawl  LINK

would work beautifully in Teneriffe lace.

I’ve made a  video tutorial that shows how to weave the Starburst motif in Teneriffe Lace on the 6 inch Hexagon loom from Dewberry Ridge Looms.

The motif can also be woven on 4 inch hexagons or any size hexagon loom.

The Starburst motif can also be woven on circular looms, too.

Teneriffe lace can be woven in any color:

The basics of how to warp the hexagon loom for Teneriffe lace and to work the running stitch at the center of the motif are covered in the Teneriffe openwork video

The motifs were woven on Dewberry Ridge looms: LINK

Kreinik metallic threads were used to add sparkle and lustre: LINK

Happy Lace making and happy weaving!
