Mapping the layout for new book

I have been working sooooooooooo hard on a new little book.

😀

The process has been really intense, because, as well as designing and making the dolls for the book, I have been learning a whole lotta new software and systems. Oh MY!

The book is called: Rosie Recycle Pin Dolls : Thrifty Little Dolls to Crochet or Knit And Spool Knit.

The dolls are adorable and I am very excited….

I’m getting close to being able to release it…. just working on finishing up the layout of the book….

The process of figuring out where each page goes and how it gets there is a complicated one….

I ended up making little mockups that I could zing back and forth in and then map out the whole works.

Each page  ended up with 7 codes, telling me something that I needed to know for the pages.

Lotsa lotsa work….. and so worth it!

I have been working so hard on the book that I haven’t been keeping up with blogging.

I will blog a bit more about the process…..

until then…. it’s back to work on it, for me.

PS:  The book is done! Hurrah!

  1. I look forward to seeing the book and the dolls. I love the idea of the ‘recycle’ dolls and it also sounds like it will be great portable, travel projects.

Good luck with the learning curve!

  3. Thanks so much, Terri!
I have found the learning curve to be extremely steep on this, but I figure that I am going to amortize that learning over a heap of projects. So, every little bit of learning and each ‘aha’ moment all add up to delight! Although, while I am in the middle of a challenge, it doesn’t feel like that much fun at times! LOL
    and nowl, back to it…

  9. there’s the designing, and the writing of the patterns, and the editing of the patterns, and the re-editing and re-writing, and the photographing of the projects, and the editing of the photos (and the learning of the new software, oh my!) and then there’s the learning of the new software for publishing, and the layout and design of the pages, and the re-layout as the first three attempts don’t work… oops…, and then there’s the printing…. ah, the printing…. as the printer turns out to be the world’s biggest temperamental prima donna (ack, running screaming and sobbing from the room), and then, discovering that the second side has to be oriented, oh just so…. NOT upside down, (wailie wailie wailie start all over again), and then, oh my, the printer is out of ink, and oh mercy, I never knew that laser printers smell soooooooooooooooooooooooo bad, so let’s work out a way of ventilating the studio- never mind that it is -20 outside, YES the windows have to be open!…. and then…. there is the absolute bliss of placing the piles of properly printed pages and walking in circles, picking them up, stapling and folding and fondling them….. WHEEEEEEEEEE!
my littlte book is DONE DONE DONE….. oh yes…. now I have to get it out into the world…. oh my….. now that’s another story…..
