A shoulder bag for the Lily Doll

This month, I designed a Shoulder Bag to weave on the Mirrix Chloe Loom for the Lily Doll as part of the Lily Doll Project- a co-creation with Mirrix Looms.

It’s a VERY tiny purse, just perfect for a 6 inch tall woven doll to carry her wee Teddy Bear and other little treasures!

Here are the links to order the kit and the PDF- Happy Weaving!

Woven Overalls for the Lily Doll Project

September is such a lovely month with clear blue skies and crisp temperatures, and oh yes, shorter days- perfect for overalls, right?

So I designed these fun overalls for the Lily Doll project.

They are woven on the Mirrix Chloe loom.

Oh so cute for Lily Doll and all her friends in the Lily Doll Project.

Check out these and the whole Lily Doll collection.

How to make a Boy or Gender Neutral Doll from the Lily Doll Kit

People have asked me how to weave a Boy or a Gender Neutral Doll using the Lily Doll Kit.

They also asked for gender neutral doll clothing, so I have been focusing on designing clothes that work for girl, boy and gender neutral dolls. (Jeans earlier in the summer, this month’s shirt and shorts and Overalls for September’s project).

I also show how to make glasses for the dolls in the Shirt and Shorts pdf and kit. All the kits are available from Mirrix Looms. LINK

I have just uploaded a video to YouTube that shows how to customize the Lily Doll kit and pdf to make your dolls be exactly the way you want them to be.

Happy Weaving! ❤

A Skirt and Sweater for Lily Doll and a How To Video for Making Super Simple Twisted Cord

Around the middle of every month of 2024, Mirrix Looms will be releasing a new pdf pattern and kit for projects that I have designed for the Lily Doll Project.

And, since today is the 15th, there’s a new pattern and kit for Lily Doll at https://mirrixlooms.com/pages/lily

Lily Doll now has a comfy sweater and a skirt that has twisted cord suspenders and waist band and a sweet sweater.

There are lots of ways to make twisted cords, but here’s one that I have come up with that is so easy: Here’s the video:

I made the skirt and sweater using the same color yarn, but if that’s too matchy matchy for you, feel free to use other colors. 🙂

Happy Weaving! and Happy Twisted Cordmaking, too! ❤

Vintage Hankie Skirts for Wooden Dolls

I am no longer carving wooden dolls, (health issues).

These One of a Kind Wooden Dolls are all for sale. They are $100 each + shipping.

I spent hours making little fitted shimmery vests, and spent more hours messing around with lace for skirts. Sadly, the lace skirts just didn’t cut it.

So, when a dear friend gave me some vintage hankies, I had an ‘aha!’ moment…. and the skirt dilemma was resolved: Tie the hankies on with ribbons. This is a super simple non-sew skirt option that I came up with decades ago for dolls in my book: Soul Mate Dolls: Dollmaking as a Healing Art. It works so well! And, now, I am happy!

A Dress for Lily Doll Made from a Scrap of Lace

This little lace dress for the Lily Doll LINK is a fun bit of upcycling.

It’s the easiest dolly dress to make, ever!

I found this scrap of lace trim – 3 1/2 inches (9 cm) wide, in a bag of sewing bits and pieces at the Thrift Shop.

I cut it to 11 1/2 inches (29 cm) then threaded 12 inches (30 cm) of 1/8 inch (3 mm) ribbon into a craft needle.

Stitch in and out along the top edge of the lace.

Pull up a loop of the ribbon 3 inches (7.5 cm) from each end. Pinch the ribbon to the edge to keep the end of the ribbon at the edge.

The loops make the shoulder straps.

Put the dress onto Lily Doll and pull up on the ribbon ends to gather it up.

Tie a bow.

You can leave the dress like this or wrap a ribbon around her waist and tie a bow at the front or the back.

A sweet dress for Lily Doll to wear while she waits for you to weave her wardrobe!
