Day 72 of #100daysofspoolknittersandlittlelooms- I have always loved making dolls.
I am a dyed in the wool upcycler, so using upcycled things in my doll making is really important to me.
My ‘Rosie Recycle’ dolls are ‘pin dolls’ that have pins on the backs of their heads so they can be hung on a curtain, worn on a lapel or hat, or pinned to bag or backpack.
Their bodies are jointed from the neck so they ‘dance’.
I love them 🙂 They are so much fun to make!
When I wrote the instructions, I didn’t include lucet cords, but the Rosie Recycle dolls can definitely be made with lucet cords as well as spool knitters.
Days 44 to Day 59 of #100daysofspoolknittersandlittlelooms-
It has taken me ages to get it done, but I have finally uploaded a pdf pattern with step by step instructions and photos on how to use a Lucet to make ‘Sweet Dreams/Emotional Support/Comfort Snails.
For weeks, I dreamt about these charming little ‘Emotional Support’, ‘Comfort’ Snails and they really did make Sweet Dreams!
They showed up in liminal dappled and speckled spaces.
They offered me comfort and guidance and spoke of the shadows that flicker in the places that are growing-when the breezes flit through the sunshine, whispering of greening new hope, love and light.
They delight me- I hope that they will offer you sweet dreams, and emotional support and comfort, too!
Throughout the amazing Artemis 2 Moon Mission, I worked away with my Lucet, experimenting to find ways of refining these snuggly Snails.
In one of the dreams that I had about these little Lucet Snails, they said that the Artemis Astronauts took us to the moon and back and showed us that we are all really made of stardust and love….
So the Sweet Dreams/Emotional Support /Comfort Snails have both hearts and stars on them so we will remember that lovely thought!
They also have Lucky Pennies inside them so they will always carry good luck and best wishes with them.
There is a link in the pattern for a how to video that has step by step instructions on how to make an upcycled chopstick Lucet.
This photo looks chaotic, right? Well that’s because it is an almost accurate picture of some of the ‘lots going on’ in my life right now.
I’m still doing the 100 day project, but I have to adapt and adjust to HOW I do it.
So, while I am dealing with all kinds of things, I don’t have the energy to make videos or complete the pattern for several projects that I am excited about.
C’est la vie and Que sera sera….. so I will continue to design and when I have more ‘spoons’ (energy) available, I will catch up with myself and get those videos and patterns done.
And, until then, it’s slowly, gently, slowly…. but sending big hugs all round ❤
Until then, please go to my Etsy shop to buy pdf patterns for fun spool knitted projects:
Day 35 of #100daysofspoolknittersandlittlelooms- Lots of Links for How To Use Spool Knitted or Lucet Cord
Spool knitting and using lucets to make lovely cord is relaxing, meditative, contemplative and just plain fun. But, people often ask me: What do you do with all those cords after you’ve made them?
Here’s a list of useful links to videos that I have made about ways of using spool knitted and luceted cord. (Lucets are flat 2 peg spool knitters))

The ideas flood in, but it takes time to work my way through them all… and some of them are Happy Dancing Lttle Winged Beings that make my heart sing and some of them scuttle away like Nasty Elusive Nopetapusses scritching and scratching and scowling all the way to the dark nether regions.
Would you like to make Irresistible tiny Red Hats to wear on your finger –
cheering yourself up in these challenging times, or for reminding yourself that Hope is an antidote to despair and cynicism
OR maybe just for a moment of fun in putting on very small finger puppet shows?
OR, perhaps to wear on your lapel or pin to your bag or backpack as a sign of community and connection, OR to give as little gifts to friends and family and fellow travellers?
Okay, here’s a video that I made showing how to spool knit an Irresistible Tiny Red Hat with yarn or fabric strips if you can’t find red yarn. Previously, I have made video tutorials on how to spool knit in the round, as well as flat panels and also how to spool knit with fabric strips. All the links to the tutorials and so much more are at my blog tottietalkscrafts dot com.
Day 29 of #100daysofspoolknittersandlittlelooms- Small is beautiful
I have been designing some spool knitting projects that are very small in scale and I am enjoying working with small spool knitters to make them.
So I have adapted some of the spool knitters that Jonathan @distinctivewoodworking and his son, Kieran, turned, to make Small But Mighty Spoolknitters that are ergonomically delightful for spool knitting small treasures.
I’ll be showing you more about Small But Mighty spool knitters and the oh so fun projects in the upcoming days.
Hmm, someone messaged me asking me what I was doing with my 100 day project andwhy?
Well, first- I have adored spool knitting since I was a little girl.
Spool knitters feel innocent and sweet and oh, my word! Those feelings are desperately needed nowadays!
And, second: Some Family stuff: My nephew, Kieran is autistic and is really good at doing woodwork with his Dad, my brother, Jonathan. (@distinctivewoodworking) who carefully mentors him with the lathe.
So, bringing those elements together: We decided to co-create some nifty stuff, and it’s kind of challenging but inspiring & wonderful, too!
(BTW I’m working on tutorials on how to make upcycled spool knitters, too, because that feels important).
I’m having a blast designing vunderbar goodies for spool knitters & exploring intriguing small looms!
The 1st spool knitter in this series is my wish for us all:
May you be well
May you live in Peace.
May you be happy,
May you be safe
I find her very comforting
.
Of course, this project is also about making stuff with spool knitters.
These Simple Tiny Spool Knitted Angels are quick & easy. I love them.
