Oracle of Stillness-Paradox- Joy and Sorrow Walk Together

Yesterday was a day full of challenges and mistakes… I am working on a new series of mixed media weaving and had to do a lot of re-considering and re-working.

I also got a couple of other things quite wrong, so had to remind myself to be curious about what I could do about that.

At bedtime, I asked my Dream Guides and Wise and Well Ancestors for guidance, and what immediately popped up was: Do some Ho Opono Opono, so I did. It’s very helpful!

This morning, I woke up with a cluster of phrases in mind as I floated in the hypnagognic state:

Gifts from the Dream Guides and Wise and Well Ancestors, for sure:

“Pax Vobiscum”, “Fiat Lux”, “Que La Lumiere Soit” and “Pause, Breathe, Begin Again”.

It also made me think:

These challenges are the reason why the mixed media Oracle of Stillness Woven Woman: “Paradox- Joy and Sorrow Walk Together” is so important to me.

She speaks the truth of dealing with the challenges that help me to understand that life is multifaceted, complicated, messy, sometimes uncomfortable and downright miserable at times, too…. BUT… in among all that, there is still Peace, Wisdom, Strength, Tenacity and the ability to maintain the Courage to be Curious and the willingness to accept that sometimes I say and do things that I am unhappy about and have to find a way to reset my compass, and to Pause, Breathe and Begin Again….

Yup. It’s a Paradox and it’s profoundly healing and deeply soulful. Not easy… but oh so necessary.

Oracle of Stillness- Finding the Way Home

Completing the “Oracle of Stillness” series of mixed media weavings has signalled some deep changes in our home.

This taken the form of a complete shift about of furniture and re-configuring how we use our spaces. Feng Shui in action!

This shape shifting has made us feel much happier with our little home as it feels more alive and cleaner and cozier and ready to receive the new work that is deliciously emerging for us… lots happening with new inspiration, but more about that later.

The decisions around ‘what do we let go of’ and ‘what do we use in new ways’ and’what do we need to bring in?’ has stirred all kinds of musings and dreaming about what ‘HOME’ is and how deeply the concept of ‘Home’ reaches down into our many levels of mind and also into our dream universes.

This Woven Woman from the ‘Oracle of Stillness’ series, “Finding the Way Home” is one of the ‘Grandmother’s Coat’ series, and is also a compendium of fleeting images from many dreams that I have had about the power of “home”.

My wish is: May everyone, everywhere find peace and healing in their homes
May everyone everywhere have safe harbor in their homes
May everyone everywhere feel heard and seen in their homes
May everyone everywhere feel welcome in their homes
May everyone everywhere feel restful repose and have sweet dreams in their homes
Whatever “HOME” means to you, may you find your way home to that…

A new Woven Woman Tapestry from my Oracle of Stillness series- One breath and then another, one step, then another

Today, I was talking to a dear friend about the incredibly difficult time that she is going through.

I told her about something that has been really helpful to me when I am in a crisis or challenge or other misery…. it’s a powerful, but simple way of getting through the suffering…

I quietly tell myself:
One breath and then another, one step, then another and sometimes, count to 3 and repeat, then repeat again…..

This is the Woven Woman mixed media tapestry that I wove for my ‘Oracle of Stillness: Weaving Coherence in the Chaos”, to illustrate and illuminate this healing practice:

One breath and then another, one step, then another” is one of 50 Woven Women that I have created over many years for the Oracle of Stillness collection.

Not all 50 of the tapestries have made it into my solo show that is opening Oct 17 at Harcourt House Gallery in Edmonton (the collection is too big and the space can’t hold them all).

If you are in or near Edmonton on the 17th, please come to the opening- my beautiful husband and 2 of his close friends (they have been ‘The Jim Findlay Trio’ for 21 or so years) will be playing for the opening.

It’s going to be special!

I’ll be posting more photos of the pieces in the show as I can gather up the energy to do it (life with Lupus and Long Covid is a challenge and I have to manage my energy reserves-‘taint easy, but like they say: Tis what tis).

AND… I hope that, in these astonishingly unsettling times, the practice of

One breath and then another, one step, then another

will be helpful to you.

hugs all round ❤

Oh, right! I need to post the link to the gallery! Here it is: Harcourt House Noreen’s opening

The show will be up until November 25, 2025.

A Dragon tapestry for my husband

My husband really likes the dragon that I designed for my ‘Innovative Frame Loom Weaving’ book.

He asked me to weave him a dragon tapestry for Christmas, so I did.

I went a bit overboard on the beads, but he likes it, so that’s okay.

He hung it on the beam between the kitchen and the dining room to be the Guardian of the Hearth.

I am so glad that he likes it.

Woven with love in every stitch.

And, yup, I designed and made the frame for it.

Pivoting clamp for pipe style tapestry loom

The Archie Brennan copper pipe looms are easy-ish to build and wonderful to weave on.

Here’s a link to the instructions that we used to build mine: LINK

It struck me that warping the pipe loom would be so much easier if I could pivot and spin the loom.

I saw a video on Youtube that showed a woman rotating her loom to warp it and that got my gears clicking.

And, so, I designed a set of pivoting clamps for the pipe loom, and now warping the pipe loom is just BLISS!!!!!

Here’s the video tutorial for them in action:

By the way, the finished size of my clamps is:

I am pleased as can be with them!

Note: The clamps can easily be moved on or off looms that are already warped, so switching looms on and off a stand is easy peasy.

Happy weaving!
