Weaving Kindness Project- How to weave a Lucky Penny Pouch

When I was a little girl, I remember when my parents saw a penny on the ground, they would say:

“Find a Penny, Pick it Up, and on that day, you’ll have good luck!”

Then, they would offer it to someone, saying: “Here’s a Lucky Penny for you! Good Luck!”.

I love making little gifts to brighten the day of someone (friend, family. acquaintance or stranger) and

I decided to make a new little Kindness gift.

It seems to me that right now, everyone we know (and don’t know) all need to feel like some Good Luck will come their way,

so that’s why I have come up with the Lucky Penny Pouches.

I have made this step by step video tutorial to show how to weave and make a Lucky Penny Pouch (for good luck!) using the Kindness Loom that I designed for my ‘Weaving Kindness Project’.

The Lucky Penny Pouches turn ‘lost and found’ pennies into little Good Luck treasures that say to people: You matter! I wish you well! and Good Luck!

The Lucky Penny Pouches are quick and easy and fun to make and to give away. You’ll need the Kindness Loom and to weave one square on it. The video tutorial is available on my youtube channel.

My Kindness Pin Loom Project

Kindness is important, isn’t it?

When we offer a tiny handmade gift that shows another person that we care about them and that they matter, it is a small act but an essential one.

It’s so lovely to brighten another person’s day by delighting them with a tiny handmade comfort gift.

Amazingly enough, that makes your day so much better, too! What a good way to help to create connection, community and hope.

That is why I have designed a whole bunch of charming little woven ‘Kindness Gifts’ and a small simple, eco friendly pin loom, the Kindness loom, that people can make for themselves using just a few household tools and upcycled materials.

The Kindness looms are perfect for weaving all manner of petite, simple and sweet Kindness gifts that are easy to make. They are a lovely a way to say: “I wish you well”.

The Kindness Pin Loom is all about weaving small tokens of caring, kindness, comfort, wishes for good luck, sweet peace and blessings! From the tiniest flying pigs, Lucky Penny pouches, Comfort Bears, Vasilisa Dolls, Angels, Goddesses to ‘Portrait’ Dolls in homage to family and friends, the Kindness Pin Loom can weave them all, because I am designing them with love and best wishes!

Making things that embody joy and whimsy in small things can add up to great goodness, can’t it? Yup. ❤

As I make the pdf’s for the Kindness projects that I have designed to weave on the Kindness Loom and load them up to my etsy shop, where they will be for sale for a modest fee, I’ll post the links to an all links page LINK And, as I make youtube videos on how to weave on the Kindness Loom as well as some freebie projects, I’ll post those links on the same page, too.

So I designed these fun overalls for the Lily Doll project.

A Mermaid Costume for the Lily Doll

The Lily Doll Project that I am designing for the Mirrix Chloe loom is all about imagination.

So to celebrate imagination, I designed a Mermaid costume to be woven on the Chloe loom for the Lily Doll.

The Mermaid Tail slips onto Lily Doll’s legs so she can have adventures in a Mermaidly way.

But it struck me this morning that the Mermaid Tail and the Lily Doll pattern could be ‘mashed up’ to weave a doll that is a Mermaid and not a little doll with legs, dressed as a Mermaid.

There are always so many options, aren’t there?

Lily Doll has Jeans Now

The Lily Doll Project that I am co-creating with Mirrix looms grows a little more each month.

This month, the newest addition is tadah: Jeans for Lily Doll and her friends.

Yesterday’s blog post was inspired by Lily Doll’s new jeans.

Lily Doll and her friends had an adventure

Lily Doll, Millie, Lally, Teddy Bear and Sam Dog The Brave decided that they needed to investigate the flowers in the trees. The flowers smelles so delicious and inviting!

Lily Doll and Millie Doll have new jeans, which made them feel extra adventurous.

Lally doesn’t have jeans yet, but she wasn’t going to let that slow her down!

Lily and Millie scrambled up the pear tree to snip the sweet smelling blossoms. They didn’t notice that Teddy Bear and Lally weren’t with them.

They heard a little ‘Squeak’ and Millie climbed down to see what it was…. oh no!

Teddy Bear thought that he might find some honey in an inviting looking tree cave…. but, nope.

No honey, but suddenly, he felt that everyone had climbed too high and he didn’t like it at all.

Millie called Lily….

And, Lily talked kindly to Teddy Bear

And they both rescued him.

Lally called to them to see what she had found…. so while Lily comforted Teddy Bear, Millie scrambled higher up the tree.

A Faerie window!!!!

Teddy Bear said he was tired and hungry and that he really didn’t want to open the Faerie Window, Just in Case…. (it could be scary, after all).

Brave Sam The Wonder Dog hadn’t bothered with climbing trees.

He was much more interested in the Faerie Door at the base of the tree!

He called them down and they took a selfie and decided that it was time to go inside.

Lally thinks that it’s unfair that she doesn’t have jeans, so I have promised her a pair.

(But in a different color, she said…. to go with her hair).

A Rainbow in My Studio

I walked into my studio this morning and was stopped in my tracks by a rainbow , gobsmackingly intense, parked under my wee Structo Loom.

I raced for my camera to catch it before it flickered off to play in another corner of the room.

Such small and fleeting things bring so much joy!

I turned my back and a moment later, the rainbow was gone…..

I hope that unexpected delights will suddenly appear for you too! 🙂

An odd thing has happened with this post…. not only did the rainbow in the studio disappear, but so has the post itself. I’ve been wrestling with getting it to show up again and wondering how and why a post would simply disappear. Sigh…..

A Skirt and Sweater for Lily Doll and a How To Video for Making Super Simple Twisted Cord

Around the middle of every month of 2024, Mirrix Looms will be releasing a new pdf pattern and kit for projects that I have designed for the Lily Doll Project.

And, since today is the 15th, there’s a new pattern and kit for Lily Doll at https://mirrixlooms.com/pages/lily

Lily Doll now has a comfy sweater and a skirt that has twisted cord suspenders and waist band and a sweet sweater.

There are lots of ways to make twisted cords, but here’s one that I have come up with that is so easy: Here’s the video:

I made the skirt and sweater using the same color yarn, but if that’s too matchy matchy for you, feel free to use other colors. 🙂

Small Square Comfort Bears woven on the Mirrix Chloe Loom

I love weaving these Small Square ‘Comfort’ Teddy Bears!

They have ‘huggy arms’ that hold onto a thumb or finger so hugs are always near.

To make a Small Square ‘Comfort’ Teddy Bear that is a Panda, weave the body in white and
work the ears, arms and legs in black or any color that you prefer.

Weave them in just one color or with 2 shades to make them ‘tweedie’.

They have lucky pennies and good wishes hearts inside, so they have very good energy.

Because they are so small, they easily fit in your pocket. It’s so good to always have a couple of them with you, because you never know who you will meet that needs a little bit of comfort!

These charming and whimsical Small Square Comfort Teddy Bears fit in an envelope so you can send them to friends who need a little hug.

They are quick and easy to make and are a lovely way to share love, kindness and all good things!
