Hearts and Flowers Large Teneriffe Lace Loom

All through the Covid pandemic, I have been working on designing and fine tuning a large new Teneriffe Lace loom that is my response to the situation that we are all in.This image has an empty alt attribute; its file name is hearts-and-flowers-teneriffe-lace-large-loom-videos-1.jpg

I wanted to create a loom that would be a way of celebrating love, compassion, kindness, resiliency, hope and friendship. The image that came up for me was of hearts and flowers.

So, I have designed a large Teneriffe Lace loom that is meant to be woven on with thicker yarns or threads than ‘normal’ and to be much larger than ‘normal’.

At the beginning of March 2020, a very kind lady sent me a pair of ‘Polka’ Teneriffe looms to say thank you for all the hard work that I put into writing the ‘Potholder Loom Weaving’ book.

I was delighted with them- but didn’t like the way the foundation strand was put onto them.

So, I figured out a different way of continuously chaining on the foundation chain.

I also figured out a way of warping the loom continuously, and then had to work out the logistics of weaving the heart and flower motifs, and, also, how to get the motifs off the loom in a workable way.

I wove hundreds of samples and made dozens of variations on the looms.

Lots of them became firewood 🙂

BUT eventually I arrived at the configuration that I love.

Gary McFarland is the mastermind behind the CNC machine at Dewberry Ridge Looms and he has added his finesse to the final version of the loom.

The link to buy the loom is:

https://www.dewberryridge.com/products/hearts-and-flowers-large-teneriffe-lace-loom

I have made 4 videos that show the complete how to’s for how to weave the Hearts and Flowers motifs.

They are:

1- How to put the foundation chain onto the loom.

I hope that the Hearts and Flowers Large Teneriffe Lace Loom will bring happiness! ❤

I have also designed a group of smaller Teneriffe Lace Looms and posted weave alongs for them.

Here’s the link to all of them: LINK

How to Upcycle Cloth Tea Bags into Teabag Yarn

Ahhh, tea!  One of life’s great pleasures!

Some teas come in cloth tea bags that can’t be composted, so instead of throwing them in the garbage,

here’s a great way to upcycle the bags into yarn that you can weave with (or knit or crochet).

I’ve made a video about how to cut the cloth tea bags into fabric yarn-

What can you do with upcycled tea bag yarn?

Weave with it as if it’s regular yarn… for instance, here are a Star , a Dragonfly and Heart woven on pin looms that I designed for Dewberry Ridge Looms

Or: Make upcycled brooches- here’s a video showing how:

Woven Window Hearts

One of the lovely things that people are doing during the pandemic is to hang hearts in the window to cheer up passers by.

This video shows some of the window hearts that I have woven on the 6 inch heart loom that I designed and Dewberry Ridge Looms makes.

The woven window hearts are a great way to use upcycled t-shirt yarn, fabric strips made from torn up worn out household linens or outgrown clothing or bulky yarn or roving or 6 inch potholder loom loops.

I embellished some of the hearts with little dolls that I made from my Rosie Recycle eBook: LINK

The looms are available from LINK

Wishing you all the best- stay well, stay at home if you can, and weave some love into your community!

Wearing my heart on my sleeve- 4 and 6 inch Heart Looms

I am so pleased!   I’ve been working with Donna and Gary McFarland of Dewberry Ridge Looms to create some absolutely lovely new Heart Looms.

They are 4 inches and 6 inches and have a wider sett than the tiny 2 inch looms.

This means that you can weave thicker yarns, roving, fabric strips, t shirt yarn on them. Lots of eco-friendly options!

And on the 6 inch Heart loom, you can even weave potholder loops, too.

One of the first things that I did with them was to mend my much loved, and very well worn woven jacket by stitching and felting one of the hearts to repair a frayed section on the sleeve.

Here are the links to buy the looms:

Garden Shawl woven on Triangle loom

For a couple of months now, I have been working on a large project…

Garden Shawl 1 A(c)

I wove a shawl on my 7 foot Triangle loom from Dewberry Ridge looms:

Triangle loom notched neckline shawl (c)

And have been designing and weaving all manner of motifs on the Thumbelina, heart, dragonfly and 2 inch Wiz looms, to stitch to it:

Garden Shawl 1 (c)

I really don’t like gardening anymore, and would much rather be weaving…

Garden Shawl 1 B(c)

So, I have created a garden on a shawl…

Garden Shawl 1 C(c)

To wrap myself in Garden pleasures all year round.

Garden Shawl 1 D (c)

That’s a dragonfly shawl pin that I made.

All the links to the videos to weave all the motifs are here on my blog and on my youtube channel,

so if you would like to weave yourself a fantasy garden, too, you can!

Just click on the Thumbelina category and follow those, or simply click on the back arrow, and you can scroll backwards to find all the tutorials.

Here’s a video slide show of the shawl:

The looms are all built by Dewberry Ridge Looms LINK

I am now moving deeply into a commissioned tapestry, so I won’t be here quite as often as I have been in the last few weeks, but I will be back!

Blessings until then!

Happy Weaving!

An easier way to weave hearts on the little heart loom

The other evening, I figured out a much easier way to weave hearts on the little heart loom that I designed, and Gary McFarland of Dewberry Ridge Looms makes.

A new & better way to weave a heart on the Dewberry Ridge Heart Loom by Noreen Crone-Findlay (c)

Here’s the new video, showing how to weave hearts this easy peasy way:

And, if you click ‘Heart Loom’ in the categories, you’ll find lots of links for yummy things to  make with the heart looms 🙂

A gift of love-A heart and hands scarf

I wanted to wrap my daughter with love, so I decided to weave her a stole or scarf that has the hand prints of our near and dear.

And in the hand prints, are little hearts that I wove on my heart loom. LINK for how to weave them.

And showed how to do the chain stitch drawings: LINK

And, how to weave the flower from hearts: LINK

copyright Noreen Crone-Findlay

Because the scarf/stole/shawl will be seen from both sides, I stitched a heart to each side of the stole :o)

I plan on crocheting an edge around it eventually, but am holding off on that until we are sure that we don’t want more triangles added to it.

I love being able to pour my love into a special gift- with love in every stitch! 😀

In every stitch is a wish for happiness!

How to weave a flower on the heart loom

The Heart loom from Dewberry Ridge loom is such a sweet little loom 🙂 Here’s the Link to order one of them: LINK

I’ve woven some fun things with it:

Here’s the ‘How to’ that shows some of them: LINK

and how to make a butterfly: LINK

And, now, here’s how to weave a flower using the Heart loom:

copyright Noreen Crone-Findlay

The flowers can be used to embellish scarves, stoles, shawls, bags, vests, hats or other garments or pillows, throws, curtains….

copyright Noreen Crone-Findlay

To make the flower, you’ll need to weave 5 hearts in petal color and 3 in leaf color:

copyright Noreen Crone-Findlay

Fold the leaf hearts in half and stitch the edges.

Then, stitch the petal hearts together with one edge layered a little over the other, then stitch a button on for the center:

copyright Noreen Crone-Findlay

Then, stitch the leaves to the back of the flower.

If you are going to stitch a pin or a hair clip to the back of the flower, cut a circle of felt and stitch it over the messy ends on the back.

If you are going to stitch the flower to a garment or home accessory, don’t worry about the felt circle.

Just stitch the flower on, leaving the tips of the leaves and part of the flower petals free so they are dimensional.

Here’s a video showing how it’s done:
